Cider52: World Cider: Sarasola Sagardoa, Isastegi Sagardo, Maley Cidre du St Bernard Cidro

Cider52: A Cider A Week. The plan: 52 weeks, 52 cider tastings, pairings, reviews, and postings.

We are focusing on American craft cider, but will continue to explore world ciders as well. Next up for February/March 2013 :

From Spain and  The Basque Country:

Sarasola Sagardoa, Astigarraga, Basque Country, Spain

Isastegi Sagardo, Basque Country, Spain

And from Italy:

Maley Cidre du St Bernard Cidro from the Valle d’Aosta region. Apples used in this cider are from Italian AND French orchards.

Tasting notes and pairings to follow.

You tease! I was looking for the full review. I had the Sarasola Sagardoa at the Cider Summit in Seattle last year and I remember really liking it. From memory it was sour, rustic, and complexe. But, I also was a little smashed. Looking forward to this one to compare to my memories.

We vowed to taste & review more American craft ciders – so the Italian, Asturian and Basque ciders will have to continue to chill. We are really interested in the Maley as it is a new cider from an old apple region that crosses current national borders.
